As Tim's wife, I'm biased about his instruction skills; however, I have to write what my kettlebell training experience has done for me, especially since I have a unique health situation. I have a horrible back. I wore back braces for scoliosis during middle school and part of high school. The braces left me very inflexible and weak. Every summer since those braces, I haven't been able to get up on one ski (deep water start) at the lake - my back just couldn't handle the drag, year after year. There were other things I couldn't do, but this one bothered me the most! In my mid twenties, I worked out very regularly at the gym (traditional exercises), and I thought I was in the best shape of my life. For one time one summer, I actually pulled out of the water on a slalom ski - it was so hard to hang on to the rope, but I did it. Then within a 3 year time span, I had two kids, and then became extremely ill - hospitalized for almost a month. I lost half a lung and a section of a rib bone, plus my lat muscle was cut during surgery. At 5'11", I wasted away to 112 lbs. The last two years since my surgery have been a slow climb back up to a normal weight, and I've always considered myself in rehab mode ever since. Now, for the last 6 months, I've been training with kettlebells - swings, snatches, windmills and side presses. My back has felt the most flexible and stable than it has in years, not to mention I've made the best progress rehabbing my surgery site (shoulder and lat area). This past week at the annual lake trip, I decided to try to slalom ski starting in the deep water. I pulled right up on the second try - and it wasn't even that hard to handle the drag! I was on cloud nine! After the surgery I've been through, plus with the loss of so much muscle mass through the healing process, I never really imagined my core and upper body would have the strength that it used to have at what I thought was its prime. I still don't have all of my muscle mass back, but I'm so much more flexible than I've ever been, and I know how to use what muscle I have. I'm thrilled with the results of my kettlebell training!
As an extra note, I really wish I had gotten over the KB intimidation factor sooner. Tim bought me a 9 lb KB last fall (the handle is bigger than the bell!), but it took me until January to give it a swing. I had been practicing windmills with dumbbells before that, but once I tried the KB, it just felt different. The side presses and windmills were perfect for rehabbing my lat that was cut, but what the swings have done for my lower back is incredible. I started with the 9 lb KB, and now comfortable swing the 18 lb KB - can even do a few snatches with it even on my left side (surgery side). I'm now practicing two handed swings with a 26 lb KB, and I'm working on doing a turkish getup without weights. I love the fact that progress comes so quickly! And I may not look it, but I feel powerful - very cool!
When Tim Anderson began working with me as my Personal Trainer at Club Worx® in January of 2008, my original goal was weight loss. Early on in our sessions, Tim recognized that I had a joint mobility problem.
In truth, I had been experiencing pain and stiffness in both ankles for over the past six years and pain in the Achilles tendon of my right leg for at least three years. Getting out of my car and walking after driving for long periods of time became a real ordeal. Descending the steps of a stadium seating movie theater was an exercise in agony. A podiatrist made custom orthotic devices for my shoes and sent me for 10 weeks of rehab therapy. The orthotics helped but really did not solve my problem.
Working with Tim Anderson has changed my life – and my joint mobility forever. He is a certified trainer in the Z-Health® Program which focuses on joint mobility. Z-Health Performance Solutions – “Life in Motion” is a program of simple exercises that bring dramatic results for improving joint mobility. The first exercise Tim had me do was to improve mobility in my ankles simply involved wrist and arm motions. After completing my first set, Tim had me walk across the gym floor. I was astounded at the difference these simple exercises made in my stride and the mobility of my ankles.
Now after seven months, my ankles are pain free. I can walk, climb and descend stairs at 74 as easily as I could at 34. The big plus is that because of my increased joint mobility, I have managed to loose 14 pounds since January. Upon Tim’s recommendation, I ordered Z-Health’s R-Phase DVD and Manual package. R-Phase is designed to be an encyclopedic introduction to the Z-Health program of improving joint mobility and will build on the skills I’ve learned from Tim.
In one of Z-Health’s Newsletters a Carl Bard is quoted as saying, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a new ending.” Thank you Tim Anderson for getting me started toward a new ending. I highly recommend him to anyone who has joint mobility problems.

It was four months before my 30th birthday and I had big plans to celebrate on a cruise through the Mediterranean. I was about 45 pounds overweight and was dreading getting into a swimsuit. But there was no better time than this to get in shape. I wanted to look good when I boarded that ship. So the first thing I did was call Tim.
We got together and talked about all the advantages that exercise had to offer and he walked me through the system step-by-step. He took me to the gym and helped me get started on a weight training circuit. Tim checked in regularly to follow up on my progress, and I knew I could call him (and frequently did) when I had questions. My energy level skyrocketed and the pounds were falling off. My family and friends couldn’t believe my results.
I looked fabulous by the time I set sail for Greece! I had to go shopping for new shorts, tanks and, of course, swimsuits! I even joined the ship’s gym and continued my exercise program while on the water. I did Yoga, Pilates, Fit-ball and Cardio. I made good food choices for the big evening dinners. I had tons of energy for the all-day-long shore excursions!
I am still sustaining my healthy and balanced lifestyle. Because of Tim, I feel a great sense of accomplishment and I’m proud of my weight loss. I’m excited about starting my 30’s looking better than I have in a long time!
